Legal disputes involving actor Kim Soo-hyun
Overview
South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun has faced several legal challenges involving allegations of misconduct and contractual disputes.
In a criminal investigation regarding allegations of grooming and sexual harassment involving the late actress Kim Sae-ron, prosecutors concluded their review by returning case files to the police without requesting further investigation. The Seoul Seongdong Police Station decided not to prosecute, citing “insufficient evidence to support the allegations of child abuse, coercion, or sexual harassment.”
In a separate civil matter, the Seoul Eastern District Court ruled in favor of Kim’s agency, Gold Medalist, in a lawsuit brought by the Swiss watch brand Mido. The court dismissed Mido’s claim for the return of approximately 570 million won in advertising fees. Mido had sought a refund following controversies regarding Kim’s personal life, but the court accepted arguments that the allegations were made by third parties and did not constitute grounds for contract termination based on the actor’s own conduct.
This ruling has now become final as Mido did not file an appeal within the permitted timeframe. The legal victory follows the previous police decision clearing Kim of child welfare law violation charges and is expected to influence other pending claims from various brands.
