Legal disputes involving Romanian Police administration

Legal disputes have emerged regarding the administrative and recruitment practices of the Romanian Police.

In Botoșani, the Botoșani Tribunal ruled on a dispute involving retired officers' rights. The court rejected arguments from the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR) and the Botoșani County Police Inspectorate (IPJ) regarding which entity was responsible for the officers. The court found that while the service relationship was with the IGPR, salary payments were managed through the IPJ, and ordered a recalculation of the officers' rights.

In Iași, the Iași Tribunal annulled the results of a recruitment competition for a psychologist position. The contest was advertised for ‘external source recruitment,’ but the winner was an active officer transferred from the Vaslui County Police Inspectorate. Although the IGPR argued that ‘external source recruitment’ should not be interpreted strictly, judges ruled that allowing an active officer to win such a contest creates an unfair advantage and removes the distinction between internal and external candidates. The police have contested this decision, and the case is expected to move to the Court of Appeal.
