Overview

By September 17, the French Communist Party (PCF) joined calls for his release, condemning the arrest as a “criminalization of the opposition.” In response to allegations of illegal detention, Abidjan public prosecutor Koné Braman stated that Katinan was “regularly summoned” and that custody limits were respected. The prosecutor clarified that the prosecution is based on events from the 2025 election period rather than the initial RHDP defamation complaint, and further contested Katinan’s status as a former minister, arguing the ordinance regarding his former government is no longer valid.
