Legal proceedings against Polish MPs

Overview

The Polish Ministry of Justice has initiated legal proceedings against several political figures following administrative and parliamentary disputes.

MP Michał Woś, a former Deputy Minister of Justice, faces charges from the National Prosecutor's Office for abuse of power and failure to perform duties for personal or financial gain. These charges concern decisions made between February 2021 and November 2023 regarding promotions within the Prison Service. Woś has denied the allegations, describing them as “wyssany z palca” (made up).

Additionally, the Ministry of Justice has filed a notification with the National Prosecutor regarding MP Janusz Cieszyński. The ministry alleges that Cieszyński removed official documents, including Prison Service officer notes and files regarding the dismissal of the Rector of the Academy of Justice, during a parliamentary intervention. Cieszyński has denied the allegations, stating that the minister is misrepresenting facts and that sensitive data was anonymized.
