Legal proceedings involving former officials in Mato Grosso, Brazil, have seen varying outcomes regarding allegations of administrative misconduct and financial irregularities.

In one case, a judge cleared former governor Blairo Maggi, former Finance Secretary Éder de Moraes, and businessman Valdir Agostinho Piran of a lawsuit seeking the return of R$ 182.9 million. The Mato Grosso Public Ministry had alleged an irregular scheme involving court-ordered debt payments to the firm Andrade Gutierrez between 2009 and 2011. The judge ruled the action unfounded, stating there was no evidence of intent to divert public funds, and noted that the claim for damages had expired due to the statute of limitations.

Separately, former state deputy Gilmar Fabris reached a R$ 900,000 settlement to resolve a lawsuit concerning a medical leave scheme at the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso. Investigations found that between 2007 and 2010, Fabris accumulated 738 days of medical leave to continue receiving pay while absent. The settlement, approved by Judge Bruno D’Oliveira Marques, involves 40 monthly installments to cover the return of assets, a civil fine, and reimbursement to public funds.
