Legal proceedings regarding driving under the influence

Legal actions and legislative efforts concerning driving under the influence are occurring across several regions.

In Honduras, a proposal has been introduced to reform the Penal Code to increase prison sentences for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The reform suggests prison terms of two to five years for light vehicle drivers and five to ten years for heavy vehicle drivers, utilizing toxicology and breathalyzer tests as sufficient evidence. In Peru, a judicial chamber ordered the release of a convicted driver involved in a fatal accident, reducing her sentence to two years of suspended imprisonment due to her lack of a criminal record and cooperation with authorities.

In Spain, separate prosecutions are underway. In Granada, a 76-year-old man faced a judge after driving the wrong way and striking five vehicles while showing symptoms of alcohol intoxication. In Albacete, prosecutors are seeking a four-year prison sentence for a man whose intoxicated driving caused a fatal accident in La Herrera, where alcohol tests recorded levels exceeding 0.84 milligrams of ethanol per liter of exhaled air.
