Following the April election of pro-European leader Peter Magyar, which ended sixteen years of Viktor Orban’s rule, Hungary has seen a shift toward a more tolerant environment for cultural and identity-based events. In August, the Sziget Festival in Budapest reported a period of renewed openness. Organizers noted that officials have engaged on practical matters without the “headwinds” experienced under the previous administration. The festival continues to emphasize diversity and LGBTQ+ rights through venues like the Magic Mirror.
