Libya National Oil Corporation energy development

Overview

Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) has entered into a production-sharing agreement with the US energy firm Chevron to explore and develop resources within the Sirte Basin. This agreement follows an international tender launched in 2025.

Alongside this partnership, NOC Chairman Masoud Suleiman has advocated for the expansion of gas transmission and distribution infrastructure. Proposed projects aim to supply gas to various regions, including Tripoli and Benghazi, to support national development. The NOC is currently working to increase Libya’s oil production from 1.5 million barrels per day to a target of two million barrels per day.
