Lien Khuong International Airport, Vietnam’s only flower-shaped international airport, officially resumed operations on 19 August 2026 following a five-month closure for infrastructure modernization. The project, managed by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), involved an investment of over 1.032 trillion VND to upgrade the runway, taxiways, drainage, and lighting systems. The new 3km runway is capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft like the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787. Prior to the reopening, ACV appointed Nguyen Van Hung, formerly the Chief of Staff of ACV, as the new Director of Lien Khuong International Airport. Upon resumption, the airport began handling between 36 and 40 daily flights, serving approximately 6,800 passengers per day. Vietnam Airlines has since increased flight frequencies to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and introduced a Da Lat-Can Tho connection. On 2 September 2026, the airport officially resumed regular international flight operations. AirAsia flight AK571 arrived from Kuala Lumpur at 10:58 AM, followed by the departure of flight AK572 to Kuala Lumpur at 11:40 AM, restoring the scheduled aviation connection between Lam Dong province and Malaysia. The reopening has triggered a significant surge in Da Lat tourism, with accommodation providers reporting a 40 percent increase in bookings. To capitalize on this, new international routes are being established, including Da Lat-Kuala Lumpur starting 2 September, with a Singapore connection planned for December 2026. The provincial strategy aims to attract travelers from South Korea, Russia, Taiwan, and other Southeast Asian nations. To support the tourism-dependent economy of Lam Dong province, local authorities are organizing roughly 70 cultural and sporting events leading up to the Da Lat Flower Festival. Due to passenger volumes exceeding the current terminal’s design capacity, the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has requested that ACV invest in a new T2 passenger terminal and a cargo terminal by 2027 to reach a capacity of 5 million passengers annually.
