Lithuanian Library family recipe archive
Overview
In late July 2026 the Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas Library opened a public call for residents to submit traditional family recipes for fermentation, preservation and marinating, with a submission deadline of 31 October. Library director Dr. Jolanta Budriūnienė framed the recipes as “living history” to be archived as part of the nation’s cultural heritage.
The initial announcement also highlighted the Palanga Summer Reading Room’s 60th‑anniversary cultural programme, featuring literary workshops, concerts, exhibitions and other events aimed at both locals and visitors.
Two days later the library reiterated the call, adding a historical illustration: a 17th‑century cucumber‑pickling recipe from the Radziwiłł estate, underscoring the link between historic noble‑court cuisine and contemporary household practices. The follow‑up reinforced the goal of preserving these culinary traditions alongside other historic documents in the library’s collections.
