Liverpool FC squad overhaul and player movements

Under new head coach Andoni Iraola, Liverpool FC is undergoing significant squad transitions and an overhaul during the 2026 pre-season. The club is managing the departures of key figures including Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate, and Andy Robertson, while preparing for the potential exit of captain Virgil van Dijk as his contract approaches its end.

To bolster the defense, the club has implemented a strategy involving Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona and a buy-back clause for Jarell Quansah. In the transfer market, Liverpool is reportedly in negotiations with PSG for Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye. This pursuit may be influenced by the expected €50m move of Ferran Torres to PSG.

Defensive prospect Ifeanyi Ndukwe continues to draw attention following injuries to Joe Gomez, Jeremy Jacquet, and Giovanni Leoni. While Ndukwe performed well in pre-season, he remains hindered by post-Brexit work permit and Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) requirements. Amidst these changes, Virgil van Dijk has expressed support for Iraola, noting that the squad must adapt to new training methods following a fifth-place finish last season.

As part of a development strategy, the club is also preparing for loan departures. Ndukwe is expected to leave on loan, with reported interest from clubs in Portugal, while defender Calum Scanlon is nearing a move to Cardiff City to secure regular playing time.
