Lloyd’s Register has entered a joint development project with Seapeak, Kongsberg Maritime, and Tunable to validate continuous emissions measurement technology on a new LNG carrier. Announced at Gastech 2026 in Bangkok, the initiative aims to independently verify the accuracy of Kongsberg Maritime’s Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) using Tunable’s gas analysis technology.

The project will compare actual CO2 emissions recorded by the vessel’s CEMS against engine test bed data and default emissions factors. This process is intended to assess how direct CO2 measurement aligns with International Maritime Organization (IMO) and European Union (EU) emissions reporting frameworks. Lloyd’s Register will act as the independent verifier for data collected from a new LNG carrier scheduled for delivery in early 2027, seeking to increase confidence in emissions data for regulators, charterers, and shipowners.
