Local community events and commemorations in Italy

Italy continues to host various local commemorations and community-focused events across several regions.

In Rome, over 5,000 people gathered at the Ippodromo delle Capannelle to celebrate its centenary. The event marked 100 years since the site’s major transformation in 1926 and the inauguration of its historic grandstand. The program featured eight horse races, including the ‘Premio Centenario’ and ‘Premio Campidoglio’, alongside guided tours and children’s activities. This celebration follows a collaborative effort between Roma Capitale and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests (MASAF) to revitalize the facility and safeguard its historical value.

Other regional activities include a ceremony in Valdieri honoring more than 500 firefighters for their work during the Monte Piastra wildfire, and a civil protection festival at Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio regarding hydraulic risk prevention. Rimini held ceremonies for the 82nd anniversary of the city’s Liberation, while environmental efforts like river cleanups in Legnano and the ‘Puliamo il Mondo’ campaign continued in Rimini and Empoli.

Recent community engagements also took place in Crotone, where Mayor Vincenzo Voce met with Carabinieri Major Rossella Pozzebon to express gratitude for her service before her transfer to the Carabinieri Cultural Heritage Protection Nucleus in Florence. Additionally, Narni hosted ‘Narni Sport Night’, an event involving approximately 80 sports associations that featured athletic demonstrations and paralympic sports such as wheelchair basketball and adapted boxing.
