Local political disputes in Castellalto and Castelli

Political instability has emerged in the Castellalto and Castelli regions of Italy, characterized by internal party disputes and sudden administrative shifts.

In Castellalto, former Democratic Party (PD) secretary Cantoro has alleged internal fractures following a renewal of the local secretariat. Cantoro raised concerns regarding procedural integrity, claiming that several memberships were processed through a single payment. He has requested that provincial and regional party structures evaluate these claims, arguing that the current direction prioritizes individual interests over democratic participation.

Simultaneously, in Castelli, the municipal administration underwent a rapid policy reversal regarding the municipal secretary. After initially expressing intent to extend the term of secretary Vincenzo Palumbi on August 18, the administration retracted the decision by August 27. On August 31, the municipal council approved the dissolution of a shared administrative convention between the municipalities of Castelli, Torricella Sicura, and Cortino. The opposition group ‘per CASTELLI’ has demanded clarification on this shift, while the mayor has accepted responsibility for the decision to preserve certain interests.
