Lockheed Martin missile production expansion

Overview

Lockheed Martin is expanding its defense manufacturing capabilities through various missile production initiatives.

In September 2026, the company entered a framework agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense to accelerate production of the AIM-260 Joint Advanced Tactical Missile (JATM). This next-generation air-to-air missile is designed for stealth platforms like the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II to counter long-range aerial threats. Australia has expressed interest in acquiring these missiles for its fleet.

By October 2026, the Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Javelin Joint Venture reported nearly doubling its annual production capacity for FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missiles over a two-year period. This expansion involves investments in long-lead components and factory modernization to meet global demand. The venture is also deploying the Lightweight Command Launch Unit (LWCLU), a smaller, lighter launcher with improved optical detection capabilities.
