Law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles have conducted multiple large-scale operations to combat illegal street takeovers. In early September, the Los Angeles Police Department launched ‘Operation Street Sweeper’ in South Los Angeles. Targeting a gathering of over 700 people, the operation utilized drone surveillance and more than 150 officers to secure the area. This action resulted in 69 arrests, 570 citations, the impoundment of 200 vehicles, and the recovery of seven firearms. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell characterized the events as criminal matters rather than “harmless entertainment.” Following this, police—supported by the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department—intercepted a minibike takeover on the 6th Street Bridge.
