Narcotics seizure in Louisiana

Overview

Authorities in Louisiana conducted a major narcotics seizure on Interstate 12 near Denham Springs. During a traffic stop of an 18-wheeler, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputies and a K9 unit discovered approximately 358.14 kilograms, or nearly 800 pounds, of methamphetamine packaged in tinfoil-wrapped bricks.

Anton Vitalyevich Rakov, a Russian national, was arrested during the incident. Officials noted that the search of the semi-truck’s trailer was prompted by Rakov’s arrest regarding his illegal status in the United States. Sheriff Jason Ard described the bust as “one of the largest” methamphetamine seizures in the history of Livingston Parish and the state of Louisiana. Rakov has been handed over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and remains in custody.
