In the Leer district of Lower Saxony, a significant printing error has been identified ahead of local elections scheduled for September 13. Approximately 27,500 ballot papers require reprinting because check boxes for four candidates were missing in electoral district IV, covering Borkum, Weener, Bunde, and Jemgum.

The error, discovered by a citizen in Bunde, led to a temporary halt in the distribution of postal voting documents. Corrected materials are expected to be available from August 21. While the electoral office has coordinated with state management to ensure that any ballots already submitted without the check boxes remain valid, officials are requesting that voters with faulty ballots exchange them at municipal offices.
