Lufthansa Airbus A340 fleet retirement
Overview
Lufthansa has scheduled the final commercial flights for its Airbus A340-600 fleet, concluding a 23-year operational period. The retirement is set for October 18, which is one week earlier than the airline’s previous plan to operate the aircraft through October 24.
The final scheduled service, flight LH419, is set to depart from Washington Dulles and arrive in Frankfurt on the morning of October 19. On that same day, the aircraft will also complete its final route between New York (JFK) and Frankfurt.
The decision to retire the remaining four A340-600s was announced in April as part of the Lufthansa Group’s 2026 cost-saving and capacity measures, influenced by rising fuel prices and a strategy to simplify the fleet.
