Macallan 1926 whisky auction

Overview

Sotheby’s held its inaugural auction at The Macallan Estate in Speyside, Scotland, featuring a rare bottle of The Macallan Fine & Rare 60 Years Old 1926 whisky. Distilled in 1926 and bottled in 1986 from sherry-seasoned oak cask No. 263, the whisky is part of an extremely limited series; only 40 bottles were drawn from the cask, with just 14 receiving the ‘Fine & Rare’ label.

On October 9, the bottle sold for £2.125 million (approximately $2.8 million). While the sale did not surpass the existing world record for a single bottle in British pounds, it set a new auction record for this specific expression and achieved the highest price ever recorded for a bottle of whisky in U.S. dollars.

The ‘Live from The Macallan Estate’ event featured 42 lots of rare Macallan whiskies from private collections, totaling £3.3 million in sales and exceeding high estimates.
