Madrid emergency medical service enhancements

Overview

Madrid has implemented several initiatives to strengthen its emergency medical response and public safety infrastructure.

In late September, the Madrid City Council renewed the SAMUR-PC fleet by adding 99 new vehicles through a multi-year leasing contract totaling approximately 23.42 million euros. This fleet includes 81 ambulances—comprising 52 basic life support, 28 advanced life support, and one psychiatric transport unit—alongside 18 rapid intervention and command vehicles. The new units feature redesigned interiors, improved ergonomics, and specialized medication compartments.

Following this, in October, the Madrid Municipal Transport Company (EMT) expanded emergency capabilities by installing connected defibrillators across 2,200 buses to enhance safety within the city’s transit network.
