Madrid youth benefit program updates
Overview
The Community of Madrid has implemented updates to its youth-oriented benefit programs. Initially, the regional government updated the eligibility requirements for the ‘Abono Joven’ transport pass, which provides unlimited travel for individuals aged 15 to 26 for 10 euros per 30 days. To maintain access for students and residents living outside the Community of Madrid, the government established agreements with other autonomous communities, specifically allowing residents of certain municipalities in Segovia, Ávila, Cuenca, Guadalajara, and Toledo to qualify.
Subsequently, the regional government expanded its ‘Carné Joven’ program by lowering the minimum age for free applications from 14 to 12 years old. This card provides holders with access to over 1,000 discounts on leisure, culture, and sports, including cinema chains, theme parks, and musical productions. The program also maintains international recognition through the European Youth Card Association, enabling discounts across 37 European countries.
