Political tensions and rumors have surfaced within Maharashtra regarding language policies and government stability.

Initially, controversy arose surrounding the state’s ‘Marathi Language Proficiency Campaign.’ Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik addressed rumors of heavy fines being imposed on auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers for failing to meet language requirements, clarifying that no such penalties of 20,000 to 25,000 rupees had been issued. Sarnaik accused certain leaders of spreading misinformation to create regional tension, while Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav criticized the potential politicization of language and its impact on the constitutional right to conduct business.

Subsequently, speculation emerged regarding internal dynamics within the ruling Mahayuti government. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s absence from a cabinet meeting due to travel to Delhi sparked rumors of friction, though Shinde stated the trip was for Shiv Sena organizational and legal matters. Additionally, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis dismissed claims that he would move into national politics in New Delhi, asserting his intention to remain in Maharashtra until at least 2029.
