Malaysia disability support and integration initiatives
Overview
The Malaysian government is advancing initiatives to support persons with disabilities (OKU) through healthcare planning and employment integration.
The Ministry of Health has begun developing a national Strategic Plan for Persons with Disabilities, which includes the creation of a national OKU Registry. This registry aims to integrate data, specifically for the cerebral palsy community, to improve service delivery. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad noted that support for these individuals must be a “lifelong commitment” extending into adulthood.
Complementing these healthcare efforts, the Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Lim Hui Ying, has called for a “whole-of-government” approach to assist the transition from education to employment. She encouraged employers to use Job Coach services to help OKU workers adapt to work environments and highlighted the importance of utilizing the RM1.5 billion allocation for the OKU community provided in the 2027 Budget.
