Malaysia student financial aid initiatives
Overview
Following the 2026 Budget presentation, the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) introduced the BAeK PTPTN scholarship to assist low-income students. The initiative aims to convert standard loans into scholarships for eligible students registered in the eKasih database who are pursuing full-time Diploma or Bachelor’s degrees at approved public institutions.
Initially, the program was set to utilize a RM120 million allocation to assist 5,800 students starting January 1, 2026, with long-term goals to reach 10,000 recipients.
By late August 2026, reports indicated that approximately 1,254 students nationwide had benefited from the BAeK PTPTN initiative, utilizing RM20.87 million in allocations. Recipients included students from institutions such as Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), and Politeknik Melaka. Additionally, the YAPEIM Welfare and Education Fund (TKPY) provided separate financial aid to UKM students, covering living expenses, tuition, and laptop costs.
