Malaysian entrepreneurship support initiatives

Overview

The Malaysian government has introduced several financial initiatives to support small-scale entrepreneurs and local traders.

In late September, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim launched the Skim Usahawan Bangkit Negeri Kedah in Kedah. Part of the Geran Sejahtera MADANI program, this scheme provides equipment assistance worth up to RM5,000 to over 1,000 entrepreneurs, specifically targeting the B40 group to help increase family incomes.

Following this, the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives announced a RM30 million allocation for the BERKAT Deepavali scheme. Managed via TEKUN Nasional, this initiative offers financing of up to RM30,000 at a three percent annual profit rate to support Indian community entrepreneurs in sectors such as food, beverage, and clothing ahead of the festival.
