Malaysian police operations against scam syndicates

Overview

Malaysian law enforcement has conducted multiple operations to dismantle online scam syndicates across different regions. In Selangor, police carried out nine operations between October 20 and 26, 2026, resulting in the arrest of 58 individuals, including 50 foreign nationals and eight locals. These suspects allegedly operated call centers involved in stock investment scams, love scams, and fake job offers. Additionally, police arrested three suspects for an impersonation scheme involving the Raja Muda of Selangor, which allegedly caused losses of RM1.42 million through fraudulent property and vehicle sales.

In Kedah, police reported dismantling seven syndicates through operations conducted during the first ten months of 2026. This resulted in the arrest of 87 individuals, comprising 27 Malaysians and 60 foreign nationals from China, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. Authorities noted that these groups frequently use abandoned premises, such as hotels or shop houses, to conduct activities targeting domestic and international victims. Reported methods include banking transaction abuse, fake lotteries, and impersonating enforcement officers.
