Weeks later Finance Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib announced a series of penalties for members of parliament and senior officials who had not settled outstanding dues, with fines ranging from 258 Rufiyaa down to 16 Rufiyaa. On 29 July 2026 the minister issued formal notices imposing additional fines of 258 Rufiyaa, 180 Rufiyaa, 56 Rufiyaa and smaller amounts of 29, 16 and 11 Rufiyaa on a group that included the Minister of State for Finance, the Minister for Youth and Sports and other senior administrators.
