In early July 2026, a court order required ordered G. Funvalhugey to pay a fine of 95,000 MVR in the Maldives. A few weeks later, fine. Weeks later Finance Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib announced a broader series of penalties targeting for members of parliament and senior officials who had not settled outstanding dues. The dues, with fines ranged ranging from 258 rufiyaa Rufiyaa down to 16 rufiyaa, signalling Rufiyaa. On 29 July 2026 the minister issued formal notices imposing additional fines of 258 Rufiyaa, 180 Rufiyaa, 56 Rufiyaa and smaller amounts of 29, 16 and 11 Rufiyaa on a systematic effort by group that included the Maldivian government to enforce financial compliance among its lawmakers Minister of State for Finance, the Minister for Youth and Sports and other senior administrators. The minister warned that continued non‑payment could trigger further legal action and higher penalties, indicating an ongoing crackdown on unpaid obligations within the government.
