Overview

In late July, Manuel Escribano was promoted as the headline torero for an afternoon bullfight at Seville’s Plaza de la Maestranza, with organizers and fans expecting his engaging style to boost the arena’s season and influence the current torero rankings.

A few days later, on 31 July, Escribano suffered a serious injury in Huelva when a Miura bull gored the lower half of his left ear lobe at the Plaza de Toros de La Merced during the Feria de las Colombinas. He underwent surgical cleaning, hemostasis and plastic reconstruction, receiving about twenty sutures. After being released from the hospital, he began recuperating in the field and expressed a desire to return to the ring once the wound healed.
