Manx Grand Prix fatal qualifying accidents

Overview

Two motorcycle riders died during qualifying sessions at the 2026 Manx Grand Prix on the Isle of Man.

The first fatality occurred on a Tuesday when 29-year-old Swiss rider Mauro Poncini died following a collision at Cruickshanks in Ramsey while competing in the Supertwin and Supersport categories. A second rider involved in that incident sustained minor injuries.

The second fatality occurred on Wednesday when 37-year-old British rider Sam Naughton died following a crash at Doran’s Bend during the third qualifying session.

Organizers have initiated multi-agency investigations into the accidents. The event takes place on the Snaefell Mountain Course, a circuit noted for its high speeds and lack of significant barriers, which has seen 269 fatalities since 1907.
