Japan Mobility Show Bizweek 2026: Mobility and AI updates
Overview
The Japan Mobility Show Bizweek 2026 and CEATEC 2026 concluded at Makuhari Messe, drawing a combined total of 112,373 visitors. The dual event featured 821 exhibitors, including a record number of startups and research institutions.
In the mobility sector, Honda showcased the CI-MEV, a two-seater electric micro-mobility vehicle designed for ‘last mile’ transport. Featuring ‘Cooperative Intelligence’ AI, the vehicle can autonomously navigate to passengers and return to its base using swappable ‘Honda Mobile Power Pack e:’ batteries. Other innovations included Isuzu’s autonomous electric bus, Suzuki’s ‘MITRA’ electric platform, and Future Co., Ltd.’s license-free electric scooter for users aged 16 and older.
Decarbonization and hydrogen technology remained central themes. Toyota, in collaboration with Chiyoda Corporation, presented a 5MW-class commercial demonstration plant for hydrogen production via water electrolysis, leveraging fuel cell technology for global deployment by 2029. Mazda and Mitsubishi Motors participated in sessions regarding the ‘energy best mix,’ discussing carbon-neutral fuels and the expansion of PHEV and BEV usage.
Beyond mobility, the event highlighted broader technological advancements, such as Sharp’s waterless laundry system and Fujitsu’s digital twin simulations for disaster management. Discussions also addressed the implementation of ‘physical AI’ and the synergy between AI and manufacturing, noting that while AI excels at knowledge processing, human creativity remains essential for setting technological goals.
