Martyr commemorations in Northern Cyprus

Overview

In Northern Cyprus, a state ceremony was held to bury 15 Turkish Cypriot martyrs whose identities were confirmed through DNA analysis by the Missing Persons Committee. The victims, which included two infants, were part of massacres in the Muratağa, Atlılar, and Sandallar villages during the 1974 conflict.

To coincide with these burials, the Muratağa-Atlılar-Sandallar Martyrs Museum was officially opened in Sandallar. Established by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the museum is located in a renovated 1930s primary school where many students were killed. The facility displays personal belongings, photographs, and letters to preserve the historical memory of the events. High-ranking officials, including Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and TRNC President Tufan Erhürman, attended the ceremonies.
