The theatrical re-release of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (the ‘Infinity Version’ or ‘Endgame Encore’) has officially reclaimed the title of the highest-grossing film of all time, overtaking James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’. The Marvel Studios blockbuster reached a global lifetime gross of approximately $2.925 billion, narrowly surpassing ‘Avatar’s’ $2.923 billion. The re-release campaign, organized by Disney and Marvel, has generated a total of $126 million worldwide since its late September 2026 launch. Following its second weekend, the film has maintained its lead with a margin of less than $2 million. The campaign earned $86 million worldwide during its opening weekend. This special edition includes four new scenes designed to bridge the gap between the 2019 film and the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. The new footage features elements such as the Time Variance Authority (TVA) and provides a glimpse of Robert Downey Jr. in his new role as Victor von Doom. This shift marks the third time the top spot has swapped between these two titles. While ‘Avatar’ held the record for nearly a decade after its 2009 debut, ‘Endgame’ first overtook it in 2019, only to lose the lead again in 2021 following an ‘Avatar’ re-release in China. The current resurgence highlights the commercial strength of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and serves as a strategic promotional tool for ~~Disney ahead of~~ Disney. Given the ~~next major Avengers installment.~~ slim margin between the two films, future theatrical runs for either franchise could shift the ranking again.
