Mass fish deaths in Quang Ngai province
Overview
Authorities in Quang Ngai province have launched an investigation into mass fish deaths in the Tra Khuc River near the Thien An residential group. Hundreds of kilograms of aquatic species, including tilapia, carp, crabs, and shrimp, have died, creating a foul odor for local residents.
Preliminary observations suggest the incident may be linked to receding water levels. On September 5, dam operators opened sluice gates to lower upstream water levels following accumulation tests, which caused certain stagnant pools along the river's sandbars to dry up. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is leading the investigation and is expected to report findings to the Provincial People's Committee by September 9.
