In late July 2026, the Massachusetts Senate introduced a package of reforms that would make the state’s temporary summer alcohol rules permanent and, separately, move to ban crypto‑ATM kiosks after FBI reports of nationwide scams that had cost Massachusetts nearly $7 million. Lawmakers argued the ban was the most effective way to protect consumers, especially seniors.

By early August 2026, the Senate had incorporated the crypto‑ATM prohibition into a broader $575 million economic‑development bond bill that also funded scientific research, defense, AI, robotics, and downtown revitalization.
