Measles exposures at US hospitals, airport, and multiple US-
Overview
Public health officials in the United States have reported measles exposures at major medical facilities in New York and Pennsylvania, as well as new alerts in Maryland, Missouri, and Ohio.
In Rochester, New York, the Monroe County Department of Public Health issued a warning after an individual tested positive for measles at Strong Memorial Hospital’s emergency department. The exposure, occurring between late Monday night and early Tuesday morning, potentially affected nearly 100 people.
In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, health officials reported a possible exposure at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) on September 11, affecting areas such as the main cafeteria and the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) West. A second exposure was reported at Philadelphia International Airport, where an infected individual passed through Terminals B and F, as well as connecting areas in Terminals C, D, and E, between September 13 and September 14. The Philadelphia Department of Public Health confirmed the airport exposure is not connected to the hospital case.
New alerts have been issued in Maryland, Missouri, and Ohio. In Ocean City, Maryland, the Department of Health identified several locations where an infected individual, who traveled from out of state, was present between September 3 and September 6. Specific sites include the Casablanca Oceanside Inn, Buona Vita Pizzeria, and The Bonfire Restaurant. Contact tracing is underway.
These incidents occur amid a rising number of measles cases. In Pennsylvania, the state Department of Health has recorded 792 confirmed cases this year. Nationally, the CDC reports that measles cases have reached 3,471 in 2026, with confirmed cases in 45 states and Washington, D.C.
