MediaTek AI expansion initiatives

In late July 2026 MediaTek announced two parallel moves that illustrate its broad push into artificial‑intelligence hardware. The company partnered with Silicon Motion to showcase AI‑ready automotive storage solutions, combining MediaTek’s cockpit platform with Silicon Motion’s SSD controllers to meet the data‑intensive needs of next‑generation vehicles. At the same time, MediaTek disclosed a discretionary financing plan of up to US$5 billion to fund the development of custom AI ASICs for data‑center workloads, targeting a 15‑20 % share of the custom chip market and projecting more than US$2 billion in revenue from the new business in 2026. Together, these announcements signal MediaTek’s strategy to extend AI capabilities across both automotive and server domains, treating vehicle platforms as extensions of the same AI infrastructure that powers data centres and edge devices.
