Medical issues involving tourists in Alanya, Turkey

Reports have emerged regarding medical and health issues involving foreign tourists visiting Alanya, Turkey.

In late July, two Swiss residents sought emergency treatment at Başkent University Alanya Application and Research Center. Following their discharge, the tourists filed complaints with the Turkish Ministry of Health and the Presidential Communication Center (CİMER) over what they described as excessive medical invoices totaling approximately €1,293. The hospital defended the charges, stating they were calculated using the Turkish Medical Association’s tariff system.

In August, multiple Czech families reported experiencing severe illnesses, including high fevers and abdominal cramps, while vacationing in Alanya. One group of fourteen tourists required hospitalization for two children. Upon returning to the Czech Republic, medical professionals investigated potential salmonellosis or rotavirus infections. Some families expressed dissatisfaction with the local medical care, citing long wait times in emergency rooms and adverse reactions to prescribed medications. While some tourists suspected foodborne illness at their hotels, hotel management has denied these claims.
