Medical student academic cycles in Latin America

Overview

In early September 2026, medical faculties in the Dominican Republic and Mexico initiated new academic cycles for the 2026-2027 period.

In the Dominican Republic, the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) deployed 420 senior medical students to begin professional internships in various public and private hospitals. Dean Ángel Nadal highlighted the necessity of ethics and discipline during this clinical training phase.

In Mexico, the Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa (UAS) welcomed 325 students in Mazatlán to expand educational coverage. Shortly after, advanced medical and health sciences students held an integration event titled “Expectativas sobre mi carrera” from September 4 to 6. This initiative, held alongside health fairs, was designed to support incoming students in fields such as Surgeon Physician, Biomedical Research, and Neuroscience by providing academic advice and motivational support.
