Memmingen Airport growth and Ryanair expansion

Overview

Memmingen Airport, also known as Allgäu Airport, has seen significant growth, reaching approximately 3.7 million annual passengers as of 2025. The facility provides connections to roughly 50 destinations across 24 countries, primarily focusing on Eastern Europe and southern holiday locations.

Ryanair is expanding its presence at the Bavarian site by stationing a fourth aircraft there later in 2026. This expansion is projected to increase passenger numbers by 21 percent this winter, exceeding 700,000 travelers. Ryanair Germany Manager Marcel Meyer-Pouchain stated that the additional capacity will enable the launch of four new destinations in summer 2027: Sevilla, Castellon, Varna, and Rimini. These follow previously announced winter routes to Catania and Tirana. The airline attributed this growth to Memmingen’s “efficient, low-cost infrastructure and lower fees,” a strategy that differs from its recent service reductions at other German airports like Bremen, Hamburg, and Berlin due to high taxes and fees.
