Menzies Aviation ground handling contracts in Portugal
Overview
Menzies Aviation, operating through its subsidiary SPdH (Serviços Portugueses de Handling, S.A.), has secured ground handling licenses for Lisbon, Porto, and Faro airports. The licenses were granted by the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) and are valid for seven years.
The decision follows the exclusion of a Spanish consortium consisting of Clece and South Europe Ground Services. While the consortium had previously been the highest-ranked proposal, ANAC disqualified them for failing to meet licensing requirements and failing to demonstrate the capacity to mobilize necessary resources. This outcome follows a legal dispute initiated by SPdH regarding the initial tender results.
Menzies Aviation CEO Hassan El-Houry described Portugal as a “strategically important market” and a “fundamental gateway” between Europe, the Americas, and Africa. The company, which recently acquired majority control of SPdH from TAP Air Portugal, employs over 3,500 people in the country.
