Overview
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) ordered Manila Electric Company (Meralco) to refund approximately ₱9.5 billion to over eight million electricity customers in the Philippines due to tariff over-recovery during 2025.
Following the regulatory order, Meralco began implementing the rebate, which includes ₱9.01 billion in over-recovery and ₱496.07 million in interest. The credits are scheduled to be applied to residential bills over a six-month period starting with the August 2026 billing cycle. On consumer statements, the refund will appear under the line item ‘AWAT (Refund)/Collect’, with residential users receiving approximately ₱0.5861 per kWh.
