Mexican law enforcement drug seizure operations
Overview
Law enforcement agencies across various Mexican states have conducted multiple operations resulting in significant drug seizures and arrests. In late September, coordinated efforts in regions including Tijuana, Campeche, Cancún, Chihuahua, and Tamaulipas led to the detention of several individuals and the recovery of heroin, marijuana, and methamphetamine. In early October, authorities in Morelia, Michoacán, continued these efforts through search warrants in the Del Empleado and Santa María/Félix Ireta neighborhoods, resulting in two arrests and the seizure of marijuana, cannabis-derived products, cash, and electronic equipment. On October 7, security forces expanded high-impact operations against organized crime. In Michoacán, a coordinated effort involving the Navy (Semar), the Secretariat of Security and Protection (SSPC), and the Attorney General's Office (FGR) executed 12 search warrants in Morelia, Uruapan, and Pátzcuaro, resulting in the arrest of 10 individuals allegedly linked to a criminal cell specializing in cargo theft and kidnapping. During these raids, two SSPC agents were wounded by gunfire. Other regional actions included the dismantling of a clandestine laboratory in Sinaloa, arrests in San Luis Potosí, and narcotics seizures in Coahuila and Veracruz. On October 20, security operations intensified across several states. In Zacatecas, federal and state agencies arrested the security directors of Río Grande and Momax for suspected involvement in aggravated kidnapping, extortion, and facilitating criminal activity. In Veracruz, 33 searches across 28 municipalities led to 29 arrests and the seizure of weapons and narcotics, while the State Prosecutor's Office reported 7 convictions and 27 legal links to criminal processes within 24 hours. In Sinaloa, authorities in Culiacán detained four individuals found with long guns, grenades, and suspected fentanyl. In Puebla, six searches led to the dismantling of the ‘Los Gutiérrez’ criminal group and 11 arrests.
