Overview

Law enforcement operations in Mexico have targeted members of the criminal group known as ‘Los Rs’ or ‘Los Rusos’.

Initial reports detailed the arrest of Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala, alias ‘El R1’, which exposed the operations of the ‘Los Rs’ cell within the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Led by the Álvarez Ayala brothers, the group has operated for over 14 years in Jalisco and Michoacán, allegedly maintaining high autonomy and serving as a high-ranking component of the CJNG. The cell has been linked to various high-profile assassinations.

Subsequent operations in the Mexicali Valley resulted in the detention of two other high-ranking members. Felipe de Jesús, known as ‘El Canelo’, was arrested following a vehicle pursuit and faces charges involving firearms and methamphetamine. In a separate operation, Édgar Hurtado Navarro, alias ‘Sargento Finix’, was captured in Ciudad Guadalupe Victoria. Identified as a lead hitman, Navarro was apprehended during a pursuit, with authorities seizing firearms and methamphetamine.
