Mexican municipal government report presentations

Municipal leaders in Mexico have presented second government reports detailing progress in social programs, security, and infrastructure. In Playa del Carmen, Mayor Estefanía Mercado reported that 1.6 billion pesos have been allocated to public security over the last two years. Statistics from January to July 2026 indicated a 46.4 percent decrease in intentional homicide, a 45.1 percent drop in vehicle theft, and a 46 percent drop in motorcycle theft. Infrastructure efforts included paving 65,000 square meters of asphalt and removing over 3,500 tons of sargassum. Additionally, Aguakan reported that the Colector Playero sanitary infrastructure project, involving a 2.5 million peso investment, is in its final stages to improve drainage in high-tourism areas. Social and inclusion initiatives have expanded in Playa del Carmen. Programs such as ‘Salud Sin Tanto Choro’ and ‘Playa Llena, Corazón Contento’ provided food and health services, while the ‘Cultivemos el Civismo’ program was introduced in schools to foster civic values. To promote inclusion, the municipality announced ‘Seña Fest’ for September 26, featuring workshops to teach Mexican Sign Language (LSM). In the Tamaulipas region, Senator Olga Sosa Ruíz highlighted investments in Antiguo and Nuevo Morelos. In Nuevo Morelos, approximately 256 million pesos were invested over four years to provide food assistance, medical care, and agricultural supplies to over 4,000 beneficiaries. In Antiguo Morelos, efforts focused on housing improvements, road rehabilitation for producers, and essential services like street lighting and potable water through coordinated federal and state efforts. In González, Tamaulipas, Governor Américo Villarreal announced that over 1,328 million pesos have been invested during his four-year administration to support education, coal production, agricultural development, and rural road rehabilitation. During Mayor Miguel Alejandro Zúñiga Rodríguez’s second government report, a major water infrastructure project was introduced.
