Mexican political party structural and leadership shifts

Mexican political parties, specifically the PRI and PRD, are undergoing various structural and leadership updates across different regions.

In early August, the PRI installed its Municipal Political Council in Cadereyta de Montes, Querétaro, for the 2026–2029 term. Concurrently, in Mexico City, the Electoral Institute of the Capital (IECM) noted that the PRD is awaiting a definitive order from jurisdictional authorities to receive approximately 81.8 million pesos in pending prerogative funds for 2025–2026.

By late August, these organizational shifts continued. The PRD strengthened its regional presence in Texcaltitlán, State of Mexico, by swearing in new leadership, including Guillermo Rojas López as president of the Municipal Executive Directorate. In Sinaloa, the PRI expanded its influence by incorporating four leaders from the Green Ecological Party of Mexico (PVEM). PRI Sinaloa President César Emiliano Gerardo Lugo stated these moves aim to better represent agricultural and productive sectors, such as farmers and fishermen.

In late August, the PRI continued restructuring in other municipalities. In Othón P. Blanco, Aracely Villanueva Chan assumed municipal leadership and established a 49-member Municipal Political Council to develop candidate profiles for the 2027 elections. Villanueva Chan highlighted a strategy of “direct territorial work” and increased female participation. Meanwhile, in Guachochi, local discourse has focused on tensions regarding traditional power dynamics and concerns that former PRI members may join the MORENA movement for electoral advantage.
