Mexican road infrastructure and safety initiatives

Local authorities in Mexico have initiated infrastructure improvements and road safety measures across various regions.

In Tecate, the State Public Services Commission (CESPTE) completed repairs on over 1,500 square meters of concrete and several hundred square meters of asphalt and sidewalks. Further repairs are scheduled for the Juárez, Loma Alta, and Pliego neighborhoods.

In San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mayor Fabiola Ricci Diestel announced pothole repairs on a 3.6-kilometer stretch of the San Cristóbal–Chamula highway. These works, supported by the State Roads Commission of Chiapas, are intended to improve mobility before new highway construction begins in late 2026 or early 2027. Due to seasonal rains, work is restricted to morning hours.

Additionally, efforts to improve road safety have included meetings by the National Institute of Land Transport (Intt) to evaluate accident reduction strategies. In San Cristóbal de Las Casas, municipal transit officials have also focused on traffic enforcement, utilizing a preventive approach such as issuing courtesy fines to visitors to encourage compliance with traffic signals.
