Mexico has announced registration timelines and tentative payment schedules for various welfare scholarship programs for the 2026-2027 school year. As of mid-October, the disbursement phase for the Rita Cetina scholarship for secondary school students has commenced. Payments are being distributed via Banco del Bienestar through October 16, with deposits scheduled based on the first letter of the cardholder’s surname. The program provides 1,900 pesos bimonthly per family with at least one secondary student, plus an additional 700 pesos for each additional student in the same family. President Claudia Sheinbaum defended the program, noting that merit-based scholarships can create inequality because socioeconomic factors like food insecurity impact learning. To assist with the process, the Secretary of Education in Michoacán, Patricia Flores Anguiano, announced informative assemblies across 6,930 schools. These sessions, consisting of 3,555 in-person and 3,375 virtual meetings, aim to guide over 52,000 parents through the registration process. A virtual assembly is scheduled for October 23 to address questions. The In Baja California, the government announced that results for the Jóvenes Becados (JOBEC) program, which provides 2,000 pesos for high schoolers and 2,500 pesos for university students, will be released on October 26. He noted that the primary challenge is ensuring parents complete administrative registration within established timeframes rather than a lack of funding.
