By late September 2026, law enforcement activities in Mexico continued to expand through targeted operations against organized crime and corruption. Previous efforts included major seizures in Veracruz, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, and Baja California. On September 17, 2026, coordinated efforts involving the Secretariat of National Defense, the Secretariat of the Navy, the Attorney General's Office, and the National Guard led to the arrest of eight individuals, including three minors, in Sinaloa and Nayarit. In Acaponeta, Nayarit, seven people were detained alongside the recovery of 10 long weapons, 24 magazines, 530 cartridges, tactical vests, and two vehicles. In Escuinapa, Sinaloa, an abandoned vessel containing 7,940 cartridges was recovered, while in Mazatlán, authorities seized 53 improvised explosive devices. In Culiacán, another clandestine methamphetamine laboratory was dismantled, yielding 1,350 liters of chemical substances. In Concordia, a clandestine camp was discovered containing three long weapons and over 1,200 cartridges. On the same day, in the mountainous region between Sinaloa and Durango, members of the Secretariat of the Navy and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection repelled an ambush by armed civilians. This operation resulted in the detention of nine individuals allegedly linked to the Sinaloa Cartel and the seizure of 17 long weapons, a machine gun, 127 magazines, and 40 improvised explosive devices. In Tijuana, authorities intercepted a tractor-trailer at the Mesa de Otay international bridge, seizing approximately 1,357 kilograms of methamphetamine and 10 kilograms of fentanyl. In Baja California Sur, a van was intercepted on the La Paz–Los Cabos highway containing 200 suspected fentanyl pills, ammunition, and three tons of chocolate clams, which are currently under a closed fishing season; two individuals were detained. On September 18, 2026, the Secretariat of the Navy and the National Customs Agency immobilized 27,216 kilograms of tartaric acid at the Lázaro Cárdenas customs office in Michoacán. Originating from Shanghai, China, the substance was flagged following a request from the Attorney General's Office because it can serve as a chemical precursor used to ‘separate and obtain certain chiral forms of substances subject to control, such as methamphetamine.’ On September 19, 2026, authorities dismantled four clandestine laboratories in Michoacán and Guerrero. During raids in Carácuaro, Zirándaro, and Coahuayutla de José María Izazaga, security forces repelled gunfire. The operation resulted in the seizure and destruction of more than 10 tons of chemical precursors and various industrial equipment, including 27 reactors and 54 gas tanks. Additionally, in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, the SSP and Navy seized a Chevrolet pickup containing approximately 500 kilograms of marijuana.
